Meet Sophie Emerson, Motolani Gbogi, Saga Lowenborg and Kysa Sager. They are all part of the new intern team that will help SACC Texas for the upcoming year, starting August 15.
Welcome, Sophie Emerson, Intern Marketing Lead!
Could you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi, I’m Sophie! I currently live in Chicago, IL and am a recent college graduate from North Park University (a historically Swedish college) with a double major in Global Studies and Scandinavian Studies, as well as a minor in Swedish! From the age of 9 months to 14 years old, I lived in Houston, TX though in 9th grade my family and I moved abroad to Copenhagen, Denmark for one year. To say it was life changing would be an understatement. The Danish (and Scandinavian) society continued to not only interest, but impress me years after returning to the States, so naturally I decided to study it.
Having Swedish-American heritage, I wanted to gain a better understanding of my ancestry as well as how the United States and Scandinavia can learn from one another. To better do so, I studied abroad in Jönköping, Sweden in the Fall of 2018 which allowed for a major leap in my understanding of the Swedish culture, as well as reminded me as to why I’m an avid Scandinavia-enthusiast.
What will you work with as an intern at SACC Texas?
I will be the Intern Marketing Lead, which entails responsibilities such as: Editor and Producer of the SACC Texas Newsletter, provide updates to the SACC Texas website, find news related to Texas and Swedish business life, as well as work on a new communication plan for SACC Texas. I look forward to the next year and all that I’ll learn!
You also have a Swedish background, could you tell us a bit about that?
I chose to minor in Swedish to compliment my majors and gain deeper cultural knowledge through the language. Also with the rising of globalization within our current world, I found it important to obtain a foreign language skill in hopes that it would assist me in navigating my career path. As I previously stated, I studied abroad in Sweden which highly improved my Swedish language abilities being that I was immersed in it at school, in town, and within friendships. I’d consider myself at the Intermediate level, though I still make the effort to incorporate Swedish in my everyday life. If you’re ever in contact with me, feel free to communicate in Swedish and I’ll do my best to do the same!

You are originally from Sweden, but you have been living all over the world. How has that formed you?
I am from Sweden, but I have lived in New Zealand, Qatar, and now the US! I feel as though this has shaped me as a person as it has offered me many different cultural experiences and given me more in-depth views on how the world works in different countries. Having to navigate the unspoken rules of each culture was tricky at times but nevertheless a learning experience, and a fun one at that!
Welcome, Kysa Sager, Intern Marketing Lead and Web Master!
What will you work with as an intern at SACC Texas?
I will be the Marketing Lead & Webmaster Intern at SACC TX. I will primarily be responsible for updating and maintaining the SACC-TX website as well as assisting with the SACC USA Business Survey.
What is your background?
I am from Farmington, Connecticut and have lived there my whole life. I have never been to Texas outside of airports, so I am excited to work with people from the Lone Star State! I grew up playing a lot of sports, my favorites are soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey, and playing all of these sports has made me a very competitive person! I decided to go to Chicago to attend North Park University. I majored in Business and Economics with a minor in Scandinavian Studies. I was the captain of the ultimate frisbee team, Allihopa, and was a part of the Scandinavian Student Association, where we would have a fika every Friday! I also was a part of a student coalition with Stateville Incarceration Center, where I would go inside the maximum-security prison for a Christian Theology course alongside the inside students. I am excited to use my younger and university experience in my role at the SACC-TX!
You also have a Swedish background, could you tell us a bit about that?
I have a Swedish name (Kajsa) but my parents decided to change the spelling to help Americans pronounce it (it doesn’t usually help, though)! My great grandparents on both sides of my family came to the US from Sweden, so I grew up with a lot of Swedish influence with traditional Swedish decor in my home and my grandparents’ homes, as well as influence on how we celebrate holidays. During my college career, I pursued a minor in Scandinavian Studies, and I took Swedish language classes as well culture classes. During the fall semester of 2018, I studied abroad at Södra Vätterbygden Folkhögskola in Jönköping, Sweden. It was an incredible experience! Swedish culture has been a major part of my upbringing and college career, and I am excited to work with the SACC-TX and continue to engage with Swedish culture!
