Finnair will start nonstop flights between DFW airport and Helsinki Vanta airport starting in March. That is great news for many Nordic people working and living in Dallas Fort Worth. We talked to Finnair’s GM for North America, Caroline Borawski. 
What made you decide to open this route between Helsinki and DFW, and how do you perceive DFW airports position?
We are committed to offering great connections between the U.S. and Northern Europe. Besides flying to the U.S. from our Helsinki hub, we’ve had direct flights from Arlanda, Stockholm to New York, LA and Miami since fall 2021. From Helsinki, we currently fly to New York, Miami, LA and Chicago; Seattle service will be added this summer. DFW is a fantastic addition to our network.
DFW is a major hub for our alliance partner, American Airlines. Our customers will be able to enjoy great connections to and from other cities in North America through their extensive network. For travelers in the Dallas region, Finnair offers smooth connections to more than 70 European cities through its Helsinki hub. Our new connection between Helsinki and DFW will open on March 27 (the Omicron wave caused a slight delay for this route).
What frequency will there be on the flights?
We’ll have four weekly frequencies between Helsinki and Dallas.
What kind of travelers are you aiming for?
We believe this route will be popular for both business and leisure travelers. The route will be operated using the A350 aircraft, which has 46 business class seats.
Are there any other route plans ahead, like Houston?
On June 1, we’ll also start flying from Helsinki to Seattle. We are committed to remaining nimble and evaluating opportunities as demand arises.
