AstraZeneca BioVentureHub (AZBVH), in partnership with SACC-USA and regional chambers, embarked on a transatlantic trade mission from October 10 to 21, strengthening life sciences ties between Sweden and key U.S. states, including Texas and Houston. The delegation sought to foster connections in MedTech and biotechnology across Florida, Texas, and Arizona.
After launching in Florida, AZBVH’s Texas visit showcased the state’s strength as a biotech hub. The delegation engaged with the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Center for Innovative Drug Discovery, and visited the Ion Houston innovation center, as well as BioHouston and the Texas Medical Center. These visits laid the groundwork for potential future partnerships.
André Persson, President of SACC Houston, emphasized Texas’ role as a life sciences leader, stating, “We are proud to bring AZ BioVentureHub’s expertise to Texas, strengthening ties with Houston’s life science industry. This event highlights the importance of regional networks.”
The Arizona leg concluded the journey, with meetings in Phoenix and Tucson. AZBVH CEO Magnus Björsne praised the local support from SACC, noting the importance of regional knowledge and connections of SACC, stating, “The local knowledge, extensive networks, and key contacts provided by SACC proved pivotal in our engagements with executive-level professionals from each region we visited.”
The mission reflects a growing international collaboration in biotech, spotlighting Texas’ role in this dynamic sector.
