Hi there! My name is Elin Sjödahl and I am the new intern at Swedish-American Chambers of Commerce (SACC) Texas. I am very excited to join the SACC-Team! I will mainly be helping out in Houston as this is where I will be based, but I will also be there to help Austin and Dallas when needed.
A little bit about myself:
I am a University student back in Sweden and I will do my thesis while I am interning at SACC TX. My major is BA, and I have a minor in economics. I hope to be able to write my thesis for an American company, so that we both can gain something from my research.
Most recently I lived in Dublin where I studied at Trinity College, but before that I lived in Stockholm. My birth city however is Örebro, a midsized city two hours west of Stockholm.
What made me interested in the US, more specifically Houston:
I first came to Houston about 4 years ago – as an au pair and I stayed here for one year. For those of you who does not know what an au pair is: an au pair is a young adult from foreign country that provides child care in exchange for a cultural experience abroad. When I decided to become an au pair, I was looking for host families all across the country but I connected well with a family living in Houston (and since I am always cold, I saw the opportunity of living somewhere warmer than Sweden 😉 ).
What I will bring to the Chamber as the new Intern:
I hope to contribute with new thoughts, ideas and my time to SACC, since most of our Board Members are very busy with their daytime jobs. I also want to start up the Young Professionals network in Houston, so that we will get more young members here.
And finally, what I am most excited about coming to Texas:
Everything! I am so excited to be here. I see this as a great opportunity for me to develop my networking skills and build a strong foundation for my future business career. I am very grateful to have the possibility to gain this experience meanwhile I am writing my thesis.
